Characteristics

Plants 600-1000 mm high. Corm subglobose, 30-40 mm diam.; tunics coarsely netted, extending upward as a fibrous collar. Stem erect, with 3 to 5 rigid, diverging branches. Leaves 4 or 5, lower 2 or 3 ± basal, reaching to ± base of spike, lanceolate, 14-20 mm wide, midrib and especially margins heavily thickened and hyaline, remaining leaves inserted on lower part of stem, smaller and partly to entirely sheathing; bract-like cauline leaves 1 or 2 in upper part of stem. Spike 25-to 35-flowered; bracts greenish but dry and brownish in upper half, later lacerate, not or barely clasping stem only at base, 9-14 mm long, inner somewhat shorter, entire or forked apically for ± 1 mm. Flowers zygomorphic, pale pink; perianth tube with lower part 7-9 mm long, barely emerging from bracts, upper part horizontal, funnel-shaped, 6-7 mm long, ± 6 mm diam. at mouth; tepals suberect and flaring distally, lanceolate, 17-19 x 5-6 mm. Filaments unilateral and arcuate, 6-7 mm long; anthers 6-7 mm long, violet. Style arching over stamens, dividing near apex of anthers, branches 4-5 mm long. Capsules globose, up to 6 mm long. Seeds elongate-angular.
