Characteristics

Plants 350-500 mm high. Corm subglobose, 20-30 mm diam.; tunics coarsely netted. Stem erect, simple or rarely branched. Leaves 3 or 4, all basal or upper 1 or 2 sheathing lower part of stem or below or entirely, reaching to base or apex of spike, lanceolate, 8-20(-25) mm wide, midrib and especially margins moderately thickened and hyaline; bract-like cauline leaves 1 or more, often concealed by leaves. Spike 10-to 16-flowered; bracts greenish but dry and brownish in upper half with paler margins, later lacerate, ± 2 internodes long, barely clasping stem below, 13-20(-28) mm long, inner 1/2-2/3 as long, forked apically for 1-2 mm. Flowers zygomorphic, bright pink; perianth tube with lower part 10-12 mm long, usually included in bracts, upper part horizontal, funnel-shaped, 7-10 mm long; tepals suberect and flaring distally, oblanceolate-attenuate, 20-25 x 6-8 mm. Filaments unilateral and arcuate, 10-12 mm long; anthers 6-8 mm long, violet or pink. Style arching over stamens, dividing near apex of anthers, branches ± 4 mm long. Capsules and seeds unknown.
