Species

Angiosperms > Fabales > Fabaceae > Wiborgia

Characteristics

An erect, relatively slender shrub usually 1.5-3 m high with grey bark. Young branches varying from rigid and spreading to weak and more or less pendulous, sparsely branched, often longitudinally sulcate, covered with short, half-appressed, white pubescence. Leaves on long-shoots with a prominent leaf base tubercle, a densely short-pubescent petiole usually 0.5-2.5 mm long and three leaflets which are narrowly obtriangular-oblanceolate (or linear), usually 4-9.5 x 2.2-3.3 mm, refuse-obcordate at the apex, cuneate at the base, generally glabrous on the upper side and pubescent at least on the prominent midvein of the lower side. Short-shoots developed in axils of leaves on long-shoots in the later part of the vegetation period. Their leaves with up to c. 5 mm long petioles. Racemes usually between 5 and 15 cm long, with relatively sparsely spaced flowers, generally 12-25(-40) in number. Bracts normally falling off in early bud-stage, linear-oblong, 1.2-1.7 mm long, partly puberulous. Pedicel 1.0-2.5 mm long (longer in the fruiting stage), closely white-pubescent. Bracteoles similar to the bracts but usually somewhat smaller, falling off at an early stage. Calyx tube campanulate, 3-3.5 mm long, with short, appressed and rather sparse pubescence; lobes broadly triangular, the lower sometimes with subulate tips, 0.3-0.7 mm long. Petals bright yellow. Standard blade obovate, 6.0-7.7 x 4.5-7.0 mm, refuse (sometimes with a little tip) at the apex, recurved in the lower part at anthesis, the back with some pubescence along the midrib, claw (3.5-)4.4-5.5 mm long. Wing blades narrowly elliptic-oblong, glabrous, 6.5-8(-9) x 2.7-3.8 mm, each with a prominent basal lobe on upper side and with several rows of minute folds adjacent to this; claws 3.5-4.5 mm long. Keel blades claw-like, upcurved, glabrous, with tapering apex, 5.7-7.0 mm long and 3.0-4.0 mm broad in the broadest part, without distinct lateral bulges; claws 3.0-4.0 mm long. Pistil with a stipe c. 3 mm long, pubescent on the sides of the stipe next to the ovary, often also on the upper or/and lower parts of the base of the ovary; this with the rudiments of an upper ridge. Ovules (2-)3-5. Fruit a one-seeded, stipitate nutlet with a pointed upper wing-like ridge; stipe 2.5-3.5 mm long, body of fruit 7-12 x 4.0-6.5 mm, the sides with few more or less prominent veins sometimes forming a reticulate pattern.
