Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 4 m or more high, with fibrous bark. Leaves opposite, glabrous; petiole 2–5 mm long; lamina elliptic (to lanceolate), (1.5–) 3–7 (–10) cm long, (1–) 2–3 (–4) cm wide, attenuate to rounded at base, rounded to acute at apex, discolorous, venation clearly reticulate. Inflorescence terminal, racemose, 3–10-flowered. Hypanthium 7–9 mm long, glabrous. Calyx lobes ovate, 3–4 mm long, yellowish green. Staminal whorls in upper half of hypanthium; upper whorl inserted just below mouth; filaments 0.5 mm long; anthers c. 1 mm long, yellow. Fruit ovoid-pyriform, c. 4 mm long, reddish.
