Characteristics

Tall shrub or small tree to 4-5 m. Leaves with petiole 1.2-4 cm long; lamina narrowly elliptic, elliptic or ovate, acuminate, 10-20 cm long, to 5 cm wide, coriaceous, glabrous; margin entire, or sinuate and prickly-toothed on juvenile plants. Conflorescence 5-8 cm long, dark ferruginous-villous; involucral bracts persistent, ±orbicular, c. 4 mm long, 4 mm wide; floral bracts ovate, to c. 5 mm long and wide, often persisting, ferruginous-villous. Tepals 10-13 mm long, creamy white, ferruginous-tomentose to-villous. Ovary ferruginous-tomentose; pollen presenter cucullate or ±clavate. Fruit 6-9 cm long, ellipsoidal, dark ferruginous-velvety. Seeds to 7 cm long, mid-brown.
