Characteristics

Small tree with thin trunk, tending to gain support from other trees (Drummond & Hemsley 2596); tree to 25–30 m., with rounded crown (Grote 3803, Greenway 4676); branchlets glabrous.. Leaves: stipules not seen, apparently very quickly caducous; petiole 2.5–6 mm. long, glabrous; lamina oblong-elliptic or elliptic, 3.3–15(–18) cm. long, 1.3–5.5(–8) cm. wide, obtusely pointed to acute or acuminate at apex, rounded to rounded-cuneate at base, glabrous.. Axis of raceme 0–3 mm. long; pedicels 5–10 mm. long, puberulous (Drummond & Hemsley 2596) or glabrous and 1 to nearly 2 cm. long (Grote 3803).. Flowers white.. Sepals 5–6 mm. long.. Petals 7–8 mm. long, 3–4 mm. wide.. Ovary puberulous or shortly pubescent.. Pods elliptic or suborbicular, somewhat asymmetric, 4–5.5 cm. long, 2–4 cm. wide.. Seeds ± 2–3 cm. in diameter..
