Epiphytic or terrestrial herbs. Pseudobulbs ovoid or subcylindric, tapering, the bases enveloped in several short or elongate, non-foliaceous or foliaceous bracts, the apex with 1 or 2 lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, plicate leaves. Inflorescences short or elongate, erect, racemose, produced from the base of the current growth; scape bracts small or large. Flowers few to many, small, or large and conspicuous. Sepals subequal, spreading, free or slightly connate at the base, the laterals adnatc to the foot of the column, forming a short, broad mentum. Petals subeqiual to the sepals. Lip conspicuously or obscurely 3-lobed, the base affixed to, or articulated with, the column foot, the lateral lobes spreading or erect, the mid-lobe broadly spreading, or the apex strongly recurved; the disk with a prominent, fleshy, often lunate, tuberculate or cristate callus. Column rather short, stout, semi-terete, somewhat arcuate, the apex with or without conspicuous lateral wings, the base produced into a short foot. Anther terminal, operculate, incumbent, 2-celled; pollinia 4, waxy.
