Foliage leaves 3–4, lanceolate to nearly linear, 4–8(14) mm wide, plicate to weakly folded, with a single main vein or sometimes 2–3 primary veins; the lowermost 1 or 2 leaves basal or nearly so with the lowermost larger than the others, reaching at least to the base of the spike, sometimes just exceeding it; the upper leaves cauline and reduced in size.
Flowers cream to greenish, reddish or purple; perianth tube 3–4 mm long, widening gradually from base to apex; tepals more or less linear-spathulate, the upper 10–12 mm long, slightly wider in the upper third and then about 2 mm wide, the other tepals 5–6 mm long, recurving and twisted loosely.
Spike with 20 or more flowers on the main axis; floral bracts green below and dry apically, densely papillate, the outer c. 2 mm long, the inner nearly 3 mm long.
Corms 15–20 cm in diameter; tunics of moderately coarse reticulate to thick fibres, the fibres vertically thickened below and claw-like.
Style reaching to about the middle of the anthers, curving downward when receptive.
Filaments c. 10 mm long; anthers c. 2 mm long.
Stem (1)3–4-branched, the branches ascending.
Capsules 3–4 mm long.
Plants 20–45 cm high.
