Characteristics

Nearly glabrous, shrubby; branches rather closely leafy, glabrous; leaves alternate, linear, acute, with revolute margins, one-nerved, glandularly-dotted, quite glabrous; pedunc. short, villous, with many barbato-ciliate bracts; invol. pluriseriate, scales numerous, oblongo-lanceolate, acute, glabrous, ciliate, with 3 glandular ribs. Much more robust than Z. gracilis [as 'Gymnostephium gracile'], with larger fl. heads and involucres. Leaves 1 inch long, 1-1 1/2 lines wide.
