Characteristics

Herba perennis in parte basali lignosa erecta usque ad 35 cm alta a basi vel a parte media ± corymboso-ramosa. Caulis griseo-fuscus vel badius, superne glandulis luteo-viridibus splendidis ornatus, subviridis ad subfuscus, dense foliatus, saepe mox ad basin denudatus et phyllopodiis ornatus. Folia alterna, densa, erecta lineari-oblonga, saepe aculeato-accuminata, integra vel interdum laxe dentata, 20-45 mm longa et 2-3 mm lata, margine interdum subrevoluta, utrinque glandulosa et interdum strigosa, semiamplexicaulia et (superioribus exceptis) longe decurrentia, uninervia, nerve subtus 0.5 mm lato distincte prominente, flavo-viridia ad laete olivaceo-viridia. Capitula parva plerumque solitaria pedunculis (20-)45-70(-110) mm longis dense glanduloso-pilosis, bracteis 2-4 obsitis; pedunculi plantarum humilium indistincti, plantarum elatarum corymboso-ramosarum distincti. Involucrum caliciforme 3-4-seriatum 6-7 mm altum et 6-8 mm latum. Involucri bracteae leviter convexae glandulosae interdum rubescentes, saepe vittis resiniferis striatae; exteriores 3 x 1 mm, interiores 4.0 x 1.2 mm usque ad 5.7 x 1.6 mm margine scarioso-ciliatae et saepe apice ciliato-dentatae. Flores radii feminei cr. 12. Ligula subcoerulea vel sublilacina distincte obovata 6.5 x 4.5 mm, tubo laxe piloso. Flores disci numerosi hermaphroditi 'female'-steriles. Corolla lutea, usque ad 3.5 mm longa, laciniis erectis non apertis margine resiniferis. Rami styli steriles 0.7-0.8 x 0.15-0.20 mm longe et anguste triangulares. Antherae usque ad 1.2 mm longae appendice late triangulari ad cordata. Ovarium glabrum sterile stramineum. Pappi setae 3-5 caducae breviter dentatae flavo-albidae vel absentes. Achenia fusca obovata 3.30 x 1.65 mm distincte costata, facies et costae aequaliter laxe semilonge pilosae vel rarius glabrae. Pili 0.09-0.35 mm longi distincte crasse bifidi. Cellae epidermidis terminaliter distincte globuloso-levatae.
