Characteristics

Planta perennis suffruticosa usque ad 20(-40) cm alta saepe a basi laxe ramosa. Caulis in parte basali ± lignosus, stramineus ad fuscus, interdum nodosus, dense foliosus, saepe denudatus et phyllopodiis ornatus. Folia alterna erecta, late linearia, acuminata, usque ad 14-16 mm longa et 1-2 mm lata, integra vel laxe dentata, semiamplexicaulia, interdum leviter decurrentia, uninervia, aut utrinque glabra et ± coriacea vel margine setoso-ciliata aut disperse hirsuta et glandulosa, margine interdum leviter revoluta, plana, forte viridia ad olivacea. Capitula mediocria ad magna solitaria pedunculis (5-)20-50 mm longis paene glabris vel sparse hispidis et glandulosis plerumque robustis, distinctis, striatis, stramineis ad subviridibus vel subfuscis, saepe purpurascentibus, 4-13 bracteis 5-7 mm longis in parte basali inflatis obsitis. Involucrum 4-seriatum late subglobosum ad turbinatum 7-9 mm altum et 10-13 mm latum. Involucri bracteae cr. 36-46, lanceolatae laxe glandulosae et setosae vitta resinifera ornatae, apice et margine superne plerumque rubescentes, margine basali stramineae ad subfuscae, in parte media fuscae; series duae exteriores 5-6 x 1 mm ad 6.8-7.3 x 1.2-1.3 mm, apice tantum fasciculato-ciliatae, series interiores margine membranaceae et margine et apice dense ciliatae, 8.2-8.4 x 1.7-2.3 mm ad 8.0-8.2 x 1.3-1.5 mm. Flores radii feminei cr. 12 subcoerulei vel lilacini-rosacei, ad maturitatem interdum purpureo-fusci. Ligula ± linearis, 11 x 2.1-2.5 mm, tubo angusto longe et laxe piloso. Flores disci numerosi hermaphroditi 'female'-steriles interdum nonnulli seriei exterioris fertiles. Corolla lutea 5.5-5.7 mm longa, laciniis 1.3-1.5 mm longis leviter apertis margine distincte resiniferis, tubo angusto, superne anguste dilatato. Stylus profunde bifidus fertilis, rami cr. 1.5 mm longi, appendices styli 0.6-0.7 x 0.2 mm anguste triangulares. Antherae usque ad 1.8 mm longae appendice elongate triangulari. Ovarium glabrum stramineum. Pappi setae 15-18 persistentes cr. 4 mm longae, in parte basali breviter ad semilonge dentatae, superne longe et ± adpresse sericeo-plumosae. Achenia anguste ad late obovata, basin versus acuminata cr. 5.0 x 2.1 mm, fusca, opaca, interdum laxe rugosa, distincte plano-compressa, anguste costata. Cellae epidermidis planae vel laxe globosae reticulato-ornatae.
