Characteristics

Suffruticose at base; stems diffuse, much branched below (often trailing), roughly pubescent; leaves alternate, oblong-cuneate or spathulate, sharply 3-5 toothed at the apex or entire, sessile, on both sides hairy, ciliate below; pedunc. slender, puberulous, elongate; invol. scales 2-3-seriate, lin.-lanceolate, acute, 3-nerved, puberulent, ciliate, the outer shorter; ripe achenes quite glabrous. Slender, the diffuse branches 12-15 inches long, sparsely leafy. Lvs. 3/4-1 1/2 inch long, 1-2 1/2 lines wide, the lateral teeth-lobes spreading. Heads small, the disc-fl. sterile, downy. Ray achenes dark brown, soon calvous, glossy, and quite glabrous.
