Characteristics

Planta perennis suffruticosa erecta usque ad 17 cm alta a basi ramosa. Caulis in parte basali lignosus, griseo-fuscus, denudatus et phyllopodiis ornatus, superne foliis erectiusculis decurrentibus dense obtectus. Folia alterna, inferiora saepe ± patentia, superiora erecta, integra, margine setoso-ciliata, linearia ad lanceolata, acuta, robusta et coriacea, 30 x 3 mm, uninervia, glabra et interne conceptaculis plurimis resiniferis semipellucidis ornata, semiamplexicaulia, longe decurrentia, ± plana. Capitula magna solitaria; pedunculi robusti fusci usque ad 45 mm longi, superne dense setosi et glandulosi, striati et bracteati; bracteae 3-4 semiamplexicaules membranaceae ciliatae stramineae 5-10 mm longae, 2-3 mm latae, in parte basali inflatae. Involucrum 3-seriatum semiglobosum vel fere globosum, 8-9 mm altum et 11-13 mm latum. Involucri bracteae 26-30 lanceolatae margine ± ciliatae, glabrescentes et saepe ad apicem rubescentes, in parte basali inflatae; exteriores una vitta resinifera crassa aurantiaca obsitae, interiores ± carinatae, vittis resiniferis 3 (raro 1) obsitae, margine scariosae, apice ciliato-dentatae. Flores radii feminei 12-18 violaceae, ligula lineari 8.0 x 2.7-2.8 mm, tubo laxe piloso. Flores disci numerosi hermaphroditi 'female'-steriles. Corolla lutea, ad 4.5 mm longa, tubo superne dilatato, lacinis leviter apertis, pilosis, margine resiniferis; stylus 0.8 mm longus distincte bipartitus; rami styli obovati ad cochleariformes steriles 0.8 x 0.4 mm; antherae ad 1.2 mm longae, appendice late triangulari subobtusa. Ovarium sterile stramineum plerumque glabrum rarius margine subpilosum. Pappi setae ± caducae cr. 10-15, 2.5-3.0 mm longae eburneae, in parte basali breviter dentatae superne semilonge dentatae ad breviter plumosae. Achenia robusta late obovata 3.6-3.7 x 2.7 mm, subfusca ad fusca, opaca, distincte costata, facies et costae aequaliter dense breviter ad semilonge pilosae. Pili 0.14-0.32 mm longi, crassiusculi, breviter rotundati vel breviter et inaequaliter bipartiti, mellei, laxe transverse striati; cellae epidermidis terminaliter distincte globuloso-levatae.
