Leaf cordate, 10–40 × 10–20 mm, dark green above, purplish beneath. Flower stem 100–300 mm long, green to pink, 1–10-flowered. Flowers porrect, 10–14 mm long, well-spaced, translucent pinkish red, usually with a green labellum, occasionally dark purple. Dorsal sepal broadly ovate, 9–12 × 5–6 mm, closely hooding column; club terete, 2–4 mm long. Lateral sepals 9–12 × 1.4 mm, parallel or crossed; clubs terete, 2–4 mm long. Petals lanceolate, c. 4 × 1.5 mm, spreading. Labellum cordate when flattened, 5–6 × 2.5–3.2 mm, margins recurved, finely toothed, apex shortly pointed. Callus thick, fleshy, papillate or warty, especially on margins; glands c. 1 mm long, comma-shaped.

A small ground orchid. It grows 30 cm tall in flower. It has a small tuber and single leaf. The single leaf has a heart shaped base and is 5.5 cm long by 3.5 cm wide. The leaf is dull green above and reddish to purple below. There is one flower stalk at the top with several flowers. The fruit is an oval capsule. It is 1 cm long.
Widespread and common, mainly in coastal and near-coastal areas extending to foothills; growing on slopes, flats and swales in coastal scrub, heathy forest, littoral rainforest, and tea-tree thickets in freely draining sands and sandy loam.
