Acriopsis Reinw. ex Blume

Genus

Angiosperms > Asparagales > Orchidaceae

Characteristics

Epiphytic orchids that form bulky clumps with thin roots. Pseudobulbs small, crowded, globular to cylindrical, when young covered with white sheathing bracts. True roots spreading from base of pseudobulbs; aerial roots prominent, white, erect, branched, forming a tangled network around pseudobulbs. Leaves 2–4, narrow, apical on pseudobulbs. Inflorescence arising from base of pseudobulb, paniculate, wiry, arching. Flowers small, dull-coloured, turning yellow before falling. Dorsal sepal narrow. Lateral sepals fused on inner margins to form a synsepalum, projecting beneath labellum. Petals narrow, divergent. Labellum base decurrent on column to form tube, remaining lamina projecting out at right angles from column near its middle. Column with two narrow arm-like lobes and wings projecting behind anther like hood.
More

Inflorescence racemose or paniculate, heteranthous, many flowered, arising from base of pseudobulb; peduncle terete, long; floral bracts persistent. Flowers not resupinate, twisted, widely open, small. Sepals lanceolate, concave at apex; lateral sepals fused to form a synsepal. Petals spreading, oblong to obovate; lip 3-lobed, pandurate to entire; disk 2-keeled.
