Subspecies

Angiosperms > Sapindales > Rutaceae > Adenandra > Adenandra odoratissima

Characteristics

A 30-60 cm high shrublet, branched from the base, with erect, slender, glabrous or very sparsely pilose branches which are pale red when young and later become defoliated, brown, terete, and relatively smooth. Leaves rather sparsely set, patent to erecto-patent, very loosely imbricated or not; petiole c. 1 mm, erecto-patent, yellowish; blade lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, 4.5-8.5 x 1.0-1.9 mm, rather soft, with revolute margins or rolling when dry, eglandular, uniformly green on both sides, sparsely pilose (mainly along the margins). Uppermost leaves hardly changed in shape, crowded to form an involucre. Flowers on slender, uniformly broad, yellowish pedicels 1.5-4 mm long, in 2-15-flowered, very condensed, sub-capitate corymbs; pedicels usually pilose above the point of attachment of the bracteoles, glabrous below. Bracts linear-lanceolate, 3.2-4.8 x 0.6-0.9 mm, sub-carinate, with somewhat thickened apex, the lower half or 2/3 long-ciliate, whitish at the base, the upper half green, Bracteoles attached somewhat below the middle or near the base of the pedicel, usually at about the same level, erecto-patent, linear, 3.5-4.5 x c. 0.5 mm, sub-carinate, reaching to about the base of the calyx segments, the lower half long-ciliate and whitish, glabrous and greenish above. Calyx 4.8-6.2 mm, divided to 75-80%, villous at the base, brownish-green, and often red along the lower margins of the segments: the latter lanceolate to broadly lanceolate, 3.9-5.2 x 1.7-2.6 mm, acute, with somewhat thickened, slightly excurved apex, ciliate at least in the lower half, inconspicuously glandular-punctate. Petals white inside, pinkish outside, glabrous, or puberulent in the lower part: claw 1.2-2.2 mm long, comparatively broad, gradually expanding into the limb; the latter broadly oblong, 4.5-5.4 x 2.4-3.0 mm, obtuse to apiculate. Staminodes c. 2.5 mm long, erect, slender, yellowish, rapidly tapering from a 0.4-0.5 mm broad, glabrous base, uniformly broad (0.1-0.2 mm) and patently long-pilose for most of their length, apically rather abruptly widening into a club-shaped, often reddish structure (c. 0.4 x 0.3 mm) and tipped by a small, sessile gland. Stamens: filaments subulate, 0.7-1.0 mm tong, slightly incurved, glabrous at the base, (latently pilose for most of their length, yellowish: anthers ovoid to broadly ovoid, dorsifixed, versatile, 0.8-1.4 x 0.6-1.0 mm, brown, sparsely pilose, lipped by a shortly stipitate, discoid to capitate gland 0.15-0.2 mm across. Ovary globose, c. 1 mm across, glabrous or somewhat pilose, brown, upper part rather sparsely papillate (from pale, stipulate glands); style c. 1 mm long, stout, recurved: stigma discoid to capitate, brown. Mature capsule conspicuously shorter than the calyx, slightly rugose, the upper part sparsely papillate, greenish-brown. Seeds ovoid to broadly ovoid, 2.2-2.6 x 1.2-1.5 mm.
