Leaves 3–20 (usually fewer), distichous, set close together, 6–20(30) × 2–8 cm, obovate, unequally 2-lobed at the apex; the longer lobe up to 12 mm long and subacute or obtuse, the smaller lobe often ± absent, or rounded; lamina dark green, usually leathery but sometimes rather fleshy, the edges undulate.
Sepals (12)20–25 × 9–10 mm, lanceolate or narrowly ovate, apiculate, winged on the back near the tip; dorsal sepal erect or arching over the column; lateral sepals spreading, (14)20–28 × 7–8 mm.
Lip deflexed, (10)15–20 × 8–15 mm, pandurate, apiculate, the margins recurved in the lower half, winged on the back near the tip, with 2 prominent ridges at the base in the mouth of the spur.
Spur 13–24 cm long, thickened in the apical third, pendent, with a loose corkscrew twist about the middle.
Epiphytic herb; stem woody, stout, to 20 cm long; roots numerous, 7–9 mm in diameter.
