Inflorescences in axillary or terminal racemes or panicles; bracts solitary, small (to large and foliaceous), caducous; pedicels with 2(– several) caducous bracteoles. Flowers 5-merous; calyx of imbricate lobes, articulate with pedicel, persistent in fruit. Corolla cylindrical to urceolate. Stamens 10 in 2 whorls, inserted at base of corolla; filaments flattened, somewhat expanded near base, geniculate; anthers dehiscing by introrse-terminal elliptic pores. Ovary 5-locular, with nectariferous disc; stigma truncate to capitate. Fruit a capsule, erect, not separating from valves at dehiscence; seeds very small, dust-like.
