Leaves subsessile, pale, sometimes drying bright yellow-green; blades 1.2–5.8 x 0.15–1(2.1) cm., narrowly lanceolate to lanceolate, narrowly elliptic or ovate-oblong, subacute to acute and sometimes apiculate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous or slightly scabridulous above, pubescent on the nerves beneath; petiole 0–1.2 mm. long; leaves often appearing whorled owing to presence of short undeveloped leafy shoots present at practically every node; stipule sheath pubescent, 0.5–4.5 mm. long with (2)5 fimbriae 1–5.8 mm. long.
Disk very shortly pubescent Style 0.7–2 mm. long in short-styled flowers, 3–4(6 fide Bremekamp) mm. long in long-styled flowers, usually filiform and undivided but sometimes bifid at the apex; stigma lobes 0.15–0.5 mm. long.
Corolla white, creamy white or greenish white; tube 1–2.8 mm. long, glabrous or very sparsely hairy outside; lobes 1.5–2.7 x 0.65–1.8 mm., ovate-oblong, glabrous or very sparsely hairy outside.
Inflorescences laxly corymbose, 0.9–7 cm. across or sometimes quite dense subcapitulate clusters; peduncles 0.2–4 cm. long; pedicels 0–1.5(3) mm. long; flowers distinctly heterostylous.
Calyx tube 0.9–1.7 mm. long, glabrous or pubescent, the limb tube 0.2–0.8 mm. long; lobes 1.4–2(3.2) mm. long (4.6 mm. in an atypical isostylous specimen), lanceolate.
Branched herb or subshrub 0.25–1.5 m. tall; young stems densely pubescent, becoming glabrescent with age and often the brown bark peeling off.
Seeds black, 0.32 mm. long, ovoid-trigonous, reticulate.
