Delicate, weak perennial, or annual, 150-300(-600) mm high. Leaf blade up to 90 x 1-2 mm, expanded, rolled, filiform; ligule an unfringed membrane. Inflorescence a very diffuse panicle, branches hair-like. Spikelet 1.5-2.5 mm long, laterally compressed, disarticulating above glumes; glumes ± equal, as long as to longer than spikelet, lanceolate, acute or acuminate, 1-nerved, keels scabrid. Floret 1, bisexual, rachilla not produced; lemma less firm than glumes, glabrous, 5-nerved, awnless or awned; awn very short, straight or slightly bent, from ± middle of back; palea subequal to shorter than lemma; callus short-hairy; anther 0.8-1.2 mm long.
