Densely tufted perennial forming firm cushions; culms 2–6 cm. high, erect.. Leaf-blades subulate, 0.5–2 cm. long, stiff, glabrous, striate, blunt-tipped.. Panicle narrowly ovate, ± 1 cm. long, open, the short stiff branches bearing 5–12 spikelets.. Spikelets narrowly oblong, 2.5–3 mm. long, green or purplish; glumes persistent, smooth, acute, the lower narrowly ovate and 1-nerved, the upper shorter, lanceolate and 3-nerved; lemma elliptic-oblong, 2 mm. long, glabrous, 5-nerved, denticulate-truncate, with or without a tiny mucro from the middle of the back; palea about three-fourths as long as the lemma; rhachilla not produced.
