Spikelets narrowly oblong, 2.5–3 mm. long, green or purplish; glumes persistent, smooth, acute, the lower narrowly ovate and 1-nerved, the upper shorter, lanceolate and 3-nerved; lemma elliptic-oblong, 2 mm. long, glabrous, 5-nerved, denticulate-truncate, with or without a tiny mucro from the middle of the back; palea about three-fourths as long as the lemma; rhachilla not produced.
