Characteristics

Large liana 4–45(–70) m long with white latex; trunk up to 18 cm in diameter; bark dark brown to pale grey, rough; branchlets glabrous.. Leaves petiolate; blade obovate, 4–15 cm long, 2–7 cm wide, rounded to shortly and bluntly acuminate, cuneate at the base, with 4–8 pairs of rather straight secondary veins, forming an angle of 45–60° with the midrib; petiole 2–6 mm long, glabrous.. Inflorescence terminal, occasionally axillary, 3–11 cm long, dense, many-flowered, puberulous or glabrous; peduncle 5–25 mm long; pedicels 4–7 mm long.. Flowers fragrant; sepals (broadly) ovate, 1.2–2 mm long, 1–1.5 mm wide, with 1–3 colleters near the edge; corolla yellow or cream, throat dark red; mature bud head about half as long as tube, ciliate with long curled hairs; tube 4–7 mm long; lobes dolabriform, 6–10 mm long, 4–9 mm wide, truncate at the apex; stamens with apex above or below mouth of corolla tube; style ± 2 mm long; ovules ± 100 in each carpel.. Fruit dark brown, 24–75 cm long, 0.3–1.5 cm in diameter; seed up to 23 mm long, coma ± 3 cm long.
