Characteristics

Liana to 40 m long, with little or no white latex; trunk to 20 cm in diameter; branchlets glabrous.. Leaves glabrous, blade elliptic, 5–15 cm long, 2–6 cm wide, apex apiculate with acute acumen, base rounded, with 5–8 pairs of upcurved secondary veins forming an angle of 45–60° with the midrib; petiole 5–20 mm long.. Inflorescence terminal, many-flowered, 3–6 cm long, dense, glabrous or puberulous; peduncle 3–17 mm long; pedicels 2–7 mm long.. Flowers fragrant; sepals ovate, 2.5–3.5 mm long, 1.5–2.5 mm wide, obtuse, with 1–5 colleters; corolla white; mature bud with a narrowly ovoid or ovoid head about half of the bud length, ciliate; tube 8–12 mm long; lobes obliquely suborbicular to ovate or obovate, 6.5–13 mm long, 5.5–11 mm wide, rounded, ciliate; stamens with apex 0–2.5 mm below mouth of the corolla tube, inserted 3.5–5.5 mm from the base; style 3.5–4.5 mm long; ovules ± 120 in each carpel.. Fruit dark brown, 40–110 cm long, 0.5–1 cm in diameter; seed 18 mm long, 2–4 mm wide; coma 3–5 cm long.. Fig. 32 (p. 97).
