Characteristics

Leaves: rhachis ± thinly crisped-puberulous or shortly pubescent; pinnae (2)3-6(8) pairs; leaflets (4)6-11(12) pairs, 13-33 x 5-14(17) mm., oblong to elliptic-or ovate-oblong, rounded at the apex, subglabrous except for a few hairs on the midrib beneath, or sometimes ± thinly puberulous beneath especially towards the base.

A tree. It grows 10-15 m tall. The crown is flat and spreading. The bark is rough and flakes off. Young branches are hairy. The leaves have 3-6 pairs or side branches and 6-11 pairs of leaflets. The flowers are white. The pods are 14-21 cm long by 3-4 cm wide. They split open. The seeds are 9-12 mm long by 8-9 mm wide.
Pod dehiscent, (10)14-21 x (2.3)3.2-3.7(4.8) cm., oblong, glabrous or nearly so, ± glossy, obscurely venose, brown or purplish-brown, usually ± tapered and acute at the base and sometimes at the apex.
Calyx 3.5-6.5 mm. long, not slit unilaterally, puberulous outside, with a few shortly stipitate glands (x 20 lens necessary) principally on the outside of the lobes.
Tree 6-36 m. high; crown spreading, flat; bark rough, flaking off; young branchlets puberulous or shortly pubescent, later glabrescent.
Flowers subsessile or on pedicels 0.5-2 mm. long; bracteoles already fallen by flowering time, minute, mostly 1.5-2 mm. long.
Staminal tube not or scarcely exserted beyond the corolla; filaments 1.7-4 cm. long, red above, white below.
Corolla white or whitish, 8-13.5 mm. long, puberulous outside.
Seeds c. 9-12 x 8-9 mm., flattened.
