Species

Angiosperms > Caryophyllales > Droseraceae > Aldrovanda

Characteristics

Stems usually 5–20 cm long, 1–2 cm diam. including leaves. Petiole 2–6 mm long, 0.5–2 mm wide; leaf lamina 2–4 mm long, 2.5–6 mm wide; apical bristles 4–8, fine, serrulate, extending beyond lamina, 2–6 mm long. Peduncles 5–15 mm long, extending beyond leaves. Sepals ovate-elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, 2.5–4 mm long, 0.8–1.5 mm wide. Petals narrowly obovate, 4–5 mm long, c. 2.5 mm wide, white or tinged pink. Filaments filiform-subulate, 3–4 mm long. Ovary subglobose. Styles filiform, spreading, c. 2 mm long. Stigmas terminal, lobed. Capsule subglobose, membranous, c. 4 mm long, c. 3 mm wide, up to c. 1.5 times the length of sepals. Seeds mostly 6–8, rarely few, broadly ellipsoidal with a short thick basal foot, black, shiny, c. 1.5 mm long.
More
Stem 6-15 cm. Leaf whorls 1-2 cm in diam., 6-9-leaved; leaves yellowish green to green; petiole 3-6 × ca. 1.8 mm, apex with 4-8 bristles, bristles 5-7 mm, extending slightly beyond leaf blade; leaf blade segments reniform-orbicular, concave, 2-6 × 6-10 mm, forming a trap with segments rising upward on stimulation then closing together and narrowing, becoming elliptic or elliptic-oblong, 3-4 mm. Petals oblong, 3-4 × ca. 2.5 mm. Ovary 2-2.5 mm in diam.; placentas 5, parietal; ovules 2. Seeds 6-8, black. 2n = 38, 48.
Stem up to 20 cm. Petiole 3-9 mm, apical subulate segments (1—3-)4—6, 6-8 mm long; flattened blade 4-7 by 4.5-10 mm. Flowers few; pedicels slightly curved, 1-1.5 cm. Sepals ovate-elliptic, to elliptic-oblong, 3-4 by 1½ mm. Petals narrow-obovate, 4-5 by 2½ mm. Filaments subulate, 3-4 mm; anthers broad. Ovary and capsule subglobose. Seeds mostly 6-8, rarely few, abbreviate-ovoid, black, 1.5 by 1 mm.
Leaves 6–9 in a whorl; petioles 3–9 mm. long, connate at the base, with c. 4—6 subulate dentate apical segments 0·4–1·2 cm. long; lamina 3–7 x 4–10 mm., reniform, articulate at the midrib, with bristles inside near the midrib which cause the 2 lobes to close when irritated.
Ovary 2–2·5 mm. in diameter, subglobose; styles c. 2 mm. long.
Inflorescence 1-flowered, axillary, pedicel 5–15 mm. long.
Seeds normally 6–8, 1·5 x 1 mm.
