Characteristics

Erect annual, 15-45 cm tall, branched; stems straight, stout to flexuous, patent-hispid, floriferous in upper part of stem, not generally throughout. Leaves or leaf-like bracts spreading, opposite or opposite or nearly so, 8-20(35) x 2-9 mm, elliptic to linear or linear-lanceolate, obtuse to rounded, entire to crenate or with two small teeth, lower shortly petiolate, hispid. Flowers solitary in axils of leaf-like bracts, pedicellate. Pedicels 1-5(7) mm long. Bracteoles linear, shorter than bracts, subglabrous to shortly hispid. Calyx 5-7(8) mm long, campanulate, shortly hispid; lobes 1.5-3.5(5) mm long, subequal, broadly triangular, obtuse, shortly hirsute on margin, of ten densely so. Corolla yellow with purplish veins, much longer than calyx. Stamens subequal; filaments all bearded, at times densely so; anthers not apiculate. Capsule about 4.5(9) x 4.5(9) mm, globose to broadly ovoid.
