Characteristics

Leaves 15–30 x 1.5–4 mm., opposite or subopposite, narrowly lanceolate, acute, broadly cuneate to subcordate at base, sessile, coarsely remotely dentate with 3–5 prominent teeth on each margin, densely short, fine hispid-pubescent above, more coarsely so on margin and major nerves beneath.

Calyx 5–9 mm. long, generally short fine hispid-pubescent, eglandular or with few stipitate glands present towards base, prominently 10-ribbed; lobes 1.5–2.5 mm. long, triangular, acute.
Erect or decumbent short-rooted annual to 20 cm. tall; branches 5–12 cm. long, opposite, widely spreading to 90° with main stem, shortly white hispid-pubescent to pubescent.
Filaments glabrous or very rarely subglabrous with occasional hair present, not clearly bearded; anther thecae apiculate.
Bracteoles 4–5 x 0.5–0.8 mm., subopposite, arising on pedicel up to 1.5 mm. below calyx, linear, pubescent.
Corolla pale yellow to pale orange, c.11 mm. long, sparsely short glandular-pilose without.
Flowers solitary in axils of leaves or leaf-like bracts, pedicellate.
Bracts similar to leaves, exceeding flowers or not.
Capsule 7.5 x 4.5 mm., ovoid-ellipsoid.
