Characteristics

Similar to A. rigida . Shrub 1-3 m high. Branchlets to 19 cm long; articles often with a waxy bloom, 7-14 mm long, 0.6-1 mm diam.; phyllichnia rounded to angular; teeth 7-9, erect to slightly spreading, not overlapping, 0.5-1.3 mm long, not marcescent. Male spikes not moniliform, 1-2.5 cm long, c. 6 whorls per cm; anther 0.8-1.2 mm long. Cones on peduncle 3-15 mm long; cone body 9-20 mm long, 7-12 mm diam.; bracteoles obtuse to very broadly acute. Samara 3.5-6 mm long, mid-brown.
