Characteristics

Shrub up to 5 m tall; branchlets greyish-white, minutely appressed-pubescent. Leaves 3-foliolate; petiole 1-3 cm long, minutely appressed-pubescent or nearly glabrous; leaflets subequal or the terminal one a little longer, sessile or subsessile; lamina of terminal leaflet 3.5-8.5 x 1-2(25) cm, narrowly elliptic, subcoriaceous, sparsely appressed-pubescent when young and soon glabrescent, minutely glandular and punctate on the under surface, apex rounded, margin rather remotely and shallowly serrulate, base cuneate; lateral nerves 5-8 pairs. Inflorescence 3-7 cm long, usually branched, minutely appressed-pubescent to nearly glabrous. Flowers in few-flowered subsessile glomerules; pedicels up to 2.5 mm long, glabrous. Outer sepals 2 x 2 mm, subcircular, minutely pubescent, inner 1.8 x 1.2 mm, broadly elliptic, minutely pubescent. Petals 1.5 x 1 mm, spathulate. Staminodes (no male flowers seen) with filaments 0.5 mm long in female flowers. Ovary 2-lobed, minutely pubescent; style up to 15 mm long, 2-fid. Fruit bright red, 6 mm in diam., subglobose, sparsely pubescent when mature, 1 coccus usually developing.
