Characteristics

Much-branched monoecious spreading tree or less often a shrub or climbing shrub, 3–15 m. tall; branches with brown lenticels, glabrous or glabrescent.. Leaves drying very discolorous, dark purplish brown above, dark green beneath, trifoliolate; petiole 5–7 cm. long, glabrescent or ± tomentose; petiolule of terminal leaflet 1–3 mm. long, of laterals ± 1 mm. long; leaflets elliptic, oblong or obovate, 3–18 cm. long, 1.5–9 cm. wide, narrowly acutely acuminate at the apex, cuneate (or in laterals ± rounded and asymmetric) at the base, finely toothed, especially in the upper third; lateral nerves in ± 12 pairs.. Inflorescences (5–)10–15 cm. long, simple or with 2 side branches up to 10 cm. long, axillary or appearing paniculate; peduncle 2–4 cm. long; axes with long hairs; cymules 4–7-flowered, the stalks ± 1 mm. long; pedicels 1–1.5 mm. long, glabrous.. Flowers cream or yellow-green; outer sepals elliptic, inner oblate ± 1.8 mm. wide, glabrous or slightly pubescent; petals spathulate, 1 mm. long, the claw ciliate and scale covered with long hairs; disk lobed, glabrous.. Stamens 2–2.5 mm. long, glabrous; staminodes 1.2 mm. long.. Fruits green, of (1–)2–3 mericarps each subglobose, 5 mm. diameter, glabrous or with sparse hairs.
