Robustus. dense confertus, ad 14 cm. diam.; tuber 10 cm. longus vel ultra, 2 cm. diam.; rami primarii 1 cm. diam.; ramuli floriferi 2-4-foliati sine gemmis bracteisque; folia fere erecta, supra visa interdum subfalcate curvata, supra plana, dorso rotundata, lat. visa e basi ad medium gradatim ampliata, e medio superne gradatim attenuata, itaque apicem versus teretia. acuta, conspicue apiculata, apiculo indurato, pallide glauce viridia, tuberculis conspicuis, cum aetate albis margaritaceisque, ad 5.5 cm. longa sine vagina 8 mm., medio ad 1.3 cm. lata, 1.1 cm. diam.; bracteae 2.5-3.5 cm. longae sine vagina 5 mm., ad 7 mm. diam.; flores sessiles; receptaculum turbinatum, cum aetate subglobosum, 8 mm. longum, 1 cm. diam.; sepala 5, acute acuminata, 0.7-1 cm. longa; petala 4-seriata, saepius obtusa, rarius emarginata vel subacuta, inferne angustata aurea. ad 2.7 cm. longa. ad 1-5 mm., vel rarius ad 2 mm., lata; filamenta ad 6 mm. longa, basi dense papillata. cum antheris pollineque aureis: glandulae 5, distantes, vix prominentes, virides 2-3-lobulatae. ca. 1.5 mm. latae; ovarium valde concavum; stigmata 10, 3.5 mm. longa. ad medium staminum intimorum vix attingentia.

Planta succulenta, caespitosi-ramosa. Caulis subnullus vel aetate irregulariter subtuberiformis, irregulariter ramosus, carnosus, 1.5-2.5 cm crassus. Folia 8-12 in rosulam conferta, decussata, valde patentia, libera, 2.3-5 cm longa, 0.9-2.2 cm lata, 5-9 mm crassa, submolliter carnosa, trigono-oblonga vel trigono-spathulata et ultra medium subrhomboideo-dilatata, acuta, supra plana, subtus basi convexa, superne carinata sed haud gibbosa, angulis integris, glabra, sordide viridia, maculis parvis albis leviter prominulis crebre notata, interdum purpureo-tincta. Flores solitarii vel bini, axillares, 4 cm diametro. Pedunculus 1 cm longus, 4 mm crassus, glaber. Sepala 5, subaequalia, 1 cm longa, 8-11 mm lata, plana, deltoideo-ovata, obtuse acuta, glabra, sordide viridia, crebre albomaculata. Petala numerosa, biseriata, imbricata nec laxa, 1.4-1.5 cm longa, 2.5-3 mm lata, lineari-lanceolata, acuta, lutea medio utrinque linea rubra notata. Stamina numerosa, in conum latum collecta, lutea. Stigmata 10, subulata, pallide viridia.
Compact, caespitose shrublet, up to 0.07 m high, thick taproot tapering to an apex. Leaves ovate-acute, upper surface flat, punctate, apex acute. Flowers solitary, yellow or orange with central red stripe on each petal. Flowering time June-Sept. Capsules 10-or 11-locular, closing bodies absent, valve wings abruptly tapering to awns.
