Characteristics

Plant to 4 m tall. Leaves shortly petiolate; lamina lanceolate, acuminate, pubescent on lower surface, to 50 cm long and 10 cm wide; ligule 3-10 mm long, shallowly bilobed, shortly pubescent. Inflorescence to 20 cm long, pubescent; bracts lanceolate, to 6 cm long, pubescent on margins, each subtending a cincinnus of 6 or more white flowers; bracteoles tubular, to 7 cm long; pedicels to 8 cm long. Calyx 15-20 mm long. Corolla tube c. 40 mm long; lobes to 15 mm long. Labellum obovate, c. 20 mm long and wide, shallowly bilobed at apex, white. Anther subsessile, c. 12-15 mm long; crest 4-6 mm long, petaloid. Ovary 8-10 mm long, pubescent, trilocular or imperfectly so. Capsule c. 3-4.5 cm long, greyish purple-brown.
