Characteristics

Tuber depressed-globose, ± 4 cm. in diameter.. Petiole up to 1.2 m. long, mottled; ultimate leaf-lobes elliptic to obovate, acuminate, 8–10 cm. long, 3–3.5 cm. broad.. Inflorescence appearing before the leaves, subtended by oblong-lanceolate cataphyll up to 20 cm. long; peduncle up to 63 cm. long or more, up to 1 m. long in fruit, 0.5–1.5 cm. in diameter.. Spathe 13–20 cm. long; tube poorly differentiated from limb, obconic, not clearly constricted at apex, 6–9 cm. long, about 5–7 cm. in diameter, outer surface probably greenish, inner surface densely covered towards base with filamentous projections, mostly 1–3 mm. long; limb broadly ovate-triangular, acute to obtuse, margins somewhat undulate, 7–11 cm. long, 9–13 cm. broad, probably maroon on inner surface.. Spadix 19–29 cm. long, longer than spathe; sterile appendix elongate-conic, slightly narrowed towards base, 10–24 cm. long, up to 1.7 cm. in diameter near base, tapering to 3 mm. in diameter near apex, probably purplish, ± smooth; staminate part 2–2.5 cm. long, 0.7–1.6 cm. in diameter, narrowing somewhat at base; pistillate part subcylindric, tapering slightly towards apex, 1.8–2.4 cm. long, 0.8–1.1 cm. in diameter, contiguous with staminate part, pistils usually congested, sometimes ± distant.. Stamens free, sessile, 1–1.5 mm. broad.. Pistil 2.5–3 mm. long; ovary 2–2.5 mm. in diameter, 2-locular, ovules solitary in each locule, placentation at base of septum, stigma sessile, subglobose, shallowly 2-lobed, ± 1.5 mm. in diameter..
