Characteristics

Sessile spikelet 8–10 mm long (including the callus); callus 3–3.5 mm long, fulvously barbate; inferior glume narrowly oblong, coriaceous, 7-nerved, rounded on the back without a median groove, narrowly truncate at the apex; superior glume similar to the inferior but 3-nerved, usually awnless; superior lemma shortly bilobed; awn 3.5–7 cm long, the column yellowish to brown, scaberulous, twice as long as the limb.

Leaf sheaths glabrous, produced into 2 inconspicuous rounded auricles; ligule adnate to the auricles; leaf laminas up to 25 cm × 5 mm, glabrous except towards the base.
False panicle 30–40 cm long, linear; spatheoles 2–3 cm long, linear-lanceolate; peduncles filiform, glabrous, without an appendage.
Raceme exserted from the side of the spatheole, bearing a solitary sessile spikelet and two well developed pedicelled spikelets.
