Characteristics

Culms to c. 55 (–80) cm high. Leaves with auricles 0.05–1.6 mm long; ligule 0.3–0.8 mm long, hyaline or membranous; blade to c. 30 cm long, 1.8–4.1 mm long. Spikes 21–70 mm long, wiht 6–13 spikelets; peduncle glabrous. Spikelets 25–48 mm long; rachilla with short hairs not covering callus base. Glumes equal or subequal; lower glume narrowly ovate to narrowly obovate, 7.7–11 mm long, 5 or 6-veined. Callus broadly triangular, not thickened at tip; dorsal surface flat, glabrous to glabrescent. Basal lemma 12–14.5 mm long, ovate to narrowly elliptic, awned, similar in firmness to glumes, apically keeled, 5–7-veined; awn 17–27 mm long, uniformly curved when dry, entered by 1 vein. Palea with 2 scabrous or ciliolate keels. Anthers 2.3–3 mm long. See also Jacobs et al. (2008).
