Apodytes E.Mey. ex Arn.

Genus

Angiosperms > Metteniusales ex > Metteniusaceae

Characteristics

Trees. Leaves spirally arranged, entire, penninerved, nigrescent. Flowers bisexual, in terminal and axillary corymbs (in Mal.), small, cylindric in bud, articulate with the short pedicel. Calyx cup-shaped, (4-)5-denticulate, persistent. Petals (4-)5, free or a little coherent at base, valvate in bud, finally spreading, linear, glabrous, obscurely keeled on the inner side, with a shortly inflexed apex. Stamens 5, almost as long as the petals; filaments subulate, glabrous; anther cells linear-oblong, sagittate below, introrse, medifixed, dehiscing by lateral slits. Disk absent. Ovary oblique, with an unilateral swelling; style thick, ± excentric, ending in a small slightly oblique stigma. Drupe ± unilaterally developed, oblique-ly ellipsoid and ± compressed, the style finally lateral to almost basal and the lateral appendage large and succulent; endocarp crustaceous; embryo in the top of the albumen, small. Seed 1, compressed, ovate-reniform, testa thin.
More
Trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, simple, entire, penninerved. Flowers in terminal or more rarely axillary panicles, hermaphrodite, regular. Sepals 5, united at the base to give small deltoid lobes, persistent in fruit. Petals 5, free, valvate, oblong-linear, glabrous. Stamens 5, alternating with the petals; filaments subulate, basally attached to petal; anthers almost sagittate. Disk absent. Ovary unilocular, bearing a fleshy lateral lobe; style eccentric; stigma truncate, very small; ovules 2, pendulous. Fruit a drupe, with a large lateral appendage, and bearing remains of persistent style.
Trees, bisexual. Leaves alternate, entire. Flowers in axillary or terminal panicles or corymbs. Calyx cupular, 5-lobed, rarely 4-lobed. Petals 5, rarely 4, free or slightly coherent at base, valvate. Stamens 5, free, c. as long as petals; filaments subulate, glabrous; anthers introrse, dorsifixed. Ovary oblique, with a fleshy lateral swelling; style ±excentric, slender; stigma subcapitate, bilobed. Fruit drupaceous with a fleshy lateral appendage, obliquely obovate; style persistent, finally lateral to almost basal; endocarp crustaceous. Seed 1, compressed, ovate-reniform.
Trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, petiolate, usually black when dry, veins pinnate, margin entire. Flowers bisexual, small, in terminal or axillary panicles or cymose panicles. Stamens 5, alternate petals and inserted at petal base; filaments dilated above; anthers sagittate, 2-lobed, dorsifixed. Ovary obliquely gibbous; style eccentric, slightly curved; stigma small, oblique. Drupe ovoid or ellipsoid, oblique; exocarp fragile, crustaceous.
Ovary 1-locular, with a lateral appendage; style excentric, more or less oblique; ovules 2, pendulous.
Stamens alternating with the petals and shortly adnate to their bases; filaments subulate.
Fruit a crustaceous drupe with a lateral fleshy appendage.
Flowers in terminal panicles, bisexual, 5-merous.
Petals free, valvate, linear, glabrous.
