Sprawling perennial to 30 cm. Leaves pinnatisect to lyrate, lobes toothed, broad to narrow, discolorous, white-felted beneath, roughly hairy to scabrid above, margins slightly revolute. Flower heads solitary, dark with white or orange rays reddish on reverse; bracts with long woolly tail. Achenes with 2 elongate-undulate cavities.
