An unbranched evergreen shrub up to 4 m.. Young twigs sparingly adpressed pubescent; older twigs glabrescent, reddish brown.. Petioles 2–5 mm. long, 1–3 mm. thick, evenly pubescent; leaf-blade oblanceolate-spathulate, 10–20(–30) cm. long, (2–)3–7(–10) cm. wide, acuminate, narrowly rounded or cordate, entire or almost so, chartaceous, sparingly glandular-punctate beneath, lateral nerves 18–24 pairs, glabrous above, subglabrous beneath but sparingly adpressed pubescent on the midrib.. Stipules triangular, 0.5 mm. long, pubescent, soon caducous.. Racemes axillary, 10–15(–20) cm. long, with the flowers in interrupted androgynous clusters; axis pubescent; bracts resembling the stipules.. Male flowers: pedicels 1–1.5 mm. long, pubescent; buds globose, 1 mm. diameter, splitting into 3–4 calyx-lobes, minutely adpressed puberulous without, glabrous within, white; disc hemispherical, covering the receptacle, perforate, pubescent; stamens 18–20, arising from the disc-perforations, anther-thecae free at the base.. Female flowers: pedicels 1 mm. long, pubescent; calyx-lobes 5, lanceolate, 1 mm. long, pubescent without, glabrous within; disc annular, shallowly 5-lobed; ovary trilobate, 1 mm. diameter, densely pubescent; styles recurved, 1 mm. long, sparingly adpressed pubescent beneath, papillose above.. Fruits deeply trilobate, 1 cm. diameter; cocci subglobose, 5 mm. long, smooth, minutely puberulous, red or greenish red.. Seeds globose, 5 mm. long and wide, smooth, marbled.
