Perennial herb, 0.15-1.80 m high; very woody lower stems, mature individuals are characterised by very short, gnarled, lower branches; plants distinctive with rufous, pilose indumentum. Stipules partially connate. Leaves with elongate petioles exceeding stipules. Inflorescences: flowers borne singly or in pairs atop elongate peduncles. Flowers: wing petals glabrous with lunate petal sculpturing.
