Leaves petiolate; leaflets elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate to ovate, sometimes obovate in lowermost leaves, apiculate, cuneate or obtuse at the base, hairy or upper surface glabrous; terminal leaflet (7)10–16 times as long as the petiole, 25–68 × 12–25 mm; lateral leaflets smaller; petioles mostly 2–5 mm long, up to 10(12) mm long in the lowermost leaves; stipules 6–12 × 1.5–3 mm, narrowly triangular or linear-lanceolate, united only at the base (up to 16 × 9 mm, ovate to ovate-lanceolate and caudate in Angolan material), ± spreading or reflexed.
Corolla bright yellow; standard 11–14 mm long, widely obovate to subcircular, abruptly contracted into a very short claw, undulate at the margins, silvery hairy outside; wings 8–10 mm long, oblong, with rows of folds between the upper veins; keel ± as long as the wings, curved, auriculate with a crest on the lateral surface, claw 2.5–3 mm long.
Inflorescence terminal or sometimes leaf-opposed, racemose or contracted and subumbelliform, 2–6-flowered or rarely up to 12-flowered; peduncle 3–50(115) mm long; bracts 4–7 mm long, linear-lanceolate.
Low spreading shrub or suffrutex up to 70 cm high, with a few simple or laxly branched stems from a small woody rootstock.
Calyx 8–13 mm long, densely appressed hairy; upper lip divided to near the base with the lobes lanceolate.
Stems and branches usually slender, ± densely subappressed pubescent with some longer spreading hairs.
Seeds 2.5–3 mm long, ovoid, subreniform-orbicular or slightly quadrangular in outline, dark brown.
Pod up to 55 × 5 mm, linear-oblong, flat, appressed silky pubescent, 10–18-seeded.
Stamens c. 8.5 mm long; anthers alternating 0.9 and c. 0.5 mm in length.
