Characteristics

Subshrubs, 30-60 cm tall, branching from below middle, branches ascending, most parts adpressed pubescent, hairs medifixed, ± rapidly glabrescent. Lowermost leaves shortly petiolate. Middle stem leaves sessile; leaf blade oblong or suborbicular, 2-3 × 2-2.5 cm, pinnatisect [to palmatisect]; segments 2 or 3 pairs, linear, occasionally forked, 8-12 × 1-1.5 mm. Uppermost leaves 3-or 5-lobed; leaflike bracts linear. Synflorescence a lax conical panicle, to 40 cm; branches elongated. Capitula solitary or in groups of 2 or 3, nodding, secund, sometimes peduncle longer than involucre, bracteolate. Involucre globose, ovoid, or broadly ovoid, 2.5-3 mm in diam.; phyllaries glabrous. Marginal female florets 5-8. Disk florets 6-15, male. Achenes obovoid or ovoid-ellipsoid. Fl. and fr. Jul-Sep.
