Characteristics

Plants 20-70 cm tall, stems simple or rarely branched. Leaves opposite, longer or shorter than internodes; lamina 2.5-7.5 x 0.1-0.4 cm; upper surface thinly to densely scabrid-pubescent to pilose, lower surface glabrous except for the pubescent to pilose midrib. Flowers 1-7 per node; pedicels 0-3 mm long. Calyx segments 2-3 x 1-1.5 mm, pilose. Corolla lobes (3-) 3.5-5 x 1.5-2 mm, often united for c. 1/4 of their length, campanulate to spreading at anthesis, green or purplish; dorsal surface thinly pilose, ventral surface glabrous at base up to the level where petals become free, then densely pilose grading to pubescent or glabrous at apex. Corona 3-5.5 mm high, of type A; basal lobe 1-1.5 mm high, with shoulders sloping, square or peaked; apical process slender, erect; ventral appendage 1/2 as long as to almost equalling process, slender, erect; corona white, yellowish or purplish. Corpusculum 0.3-0.53 mm long; pollinium 0.5-0.68 mm long, with indistinct germination zone. Fruit 6-7 cm long, without bristles, densely pubescent.
