Characteristics

Plants 20-45 cm tall, stems simple or branched. Leaves opposite, longer or shorter than internodes, sometimes crowded; lamina 2.5-7 x 0.025-0.4 cm; surfaces usually glabrous, occasionally pubescent. Flowers 2-7 per node or rarely all flowers in a terminal 9-13-flowered head; pedicels 5-8 mm long. Calyx lobes 1.5-2.5 x 0.5-0.75 mm, pilose. Corolla lobes 4-5 x 1.5-2 mm, flat and spreading at anthesis, brown; dorsal surface pilose, ventral surface glabrous or puberulent. Corona lobes 1.5-2 mm long, rounded-triangular in dorsal view, the sides of the lobe curved forward, the ventral surface with hood-like appendage shorter than lobe; small rounded subsidiary lobes present, alternating with main lobes; corona white. Corpusculum 0.23-0.25 mm long; translator arms short, flattened; pollinia c. 0.88 mm long, linear, strongly compressed, without apparent germination zone. Fruits rare, 4.5-5 cm long, slender, glabrescent, without bristles.
