Aspidoglossum fasciculare E.Mey.

Species

Angiosperms > Gentianales > Apocynaceae > Aspidoglossum

Characteristics

Plants 12-34 cm tall, unbranched. Leaves opposite, the lower ones much shorter than internodes, upper ones equalling to exceeding the internodes; 3 pairs of leaves usually present below the lowest flowering node; lamina 2.5-5.4 x 0.4-0.6 (-1.2) cm, linear-elliptic to (rarely) broadly elliptic; upper leaf surface scabrid-pubescent especially towards the margin, lower surface pilose on midrib and veins. Flowers 3-5 per node; pedicels 10-13 mm long; peduncle occasionally present, up to 4 mm long. Calyx segments 3-4 x 0.5-1 mm, pilose. Corolla lobes 5-6 x 1.5-2 mm, reflexed but not replicate at anthesis, green with mauve veins; dorsal surface appressed-pilose, ventral surface pubescent throughout (except for a glabrous band along the left-hand margin) or pubescent at base, becoming papillose and then glabrous towards the apex. Corona 4-4.5 mm high, of type A, with basal lobe 1-1.5 mm high; shoulders peaked, usually denticulate; apical process erect or slightly reflexed, appendage erect or slightly inflexed, shorter than or equalling process; corona white flushed mauve. Anther appendages sometimes with marginal tufts of cilia; corpusculum 0.25-0.3 mm long, slender; translator arms slender, terete, serpentine; pollinium 0.35-0.4 mm long, with conspicuous germination zone. Fruit unknown.
More

Leaves opposite, lower ones much shorter than internodes, lengthening higher up the stem, longer or shorter than internodes; blade very variable, ovate to lanceolate, 25-54 x 4-6 mm. Inflorescence 1-7(usually 3-5)-flowered, pedunculate. Flowers: pedicels 10-13 mm long; corolla lobes 2.0-6.5 x 1-2 mm, flat and slightly reflexed, dorsal surface appressed-pilose, ventral surface pubescent throughout, green with mauve venation; corona white flushed mauve, apical process erect or slightly reflexed, ventral process erect or slightly inflexed, processes tooth-like; anther appendages with marginal tufts of cilia or membranous. Pollinia with conspicuous germination zone, pyriform; corpusculum 0.2-0.3 mm long, slender. Flowering time Sept.-Dec. Fruit?
