Species

Angiosperms > Gentianales > Apocynaceae > Aspidoglossum

Characteristics

Plants 26-50 cm tall, with erect unbranched stems. Leaves opposite, all or most shorter than internodes; lamina 2.5-3.5 x 0.1-0.2 cm, held vertically; surfaces glabrous or minutely brown glandular-scabrid. Flowers 1-9 per node; pedicels 5-8 mm long. Calyx segments 1.5-2 x 0.75-1 mm, dorsally pilose with hyaline and/or brown glandular hairs. Corolla lobes 2.5-4 x 1.5-2.5 mm, spreading and slightly cucullate at anthesis, pale green striped maroon (the stripes visible in dried material); dorsal surface sparsely to densely pilose with hyaline and/or brown glandular hairs, or rarely glabrous (the types of indumentum on calyx and corolla are not correlated); ventral surface glabrous. Corona lobes 1-1.5 mm high, rounded-triangular in dorsal view, the apex, or the ventral surface just below the apex, produced into a horizontal appendage pointing into the centre of the flower, the sides of the lobe curved forward; corona lime green. Corpusculum 0.23-0.28 mm long; translator arms conspicuously flattened out at their midpoint; anther alar fissures strongly jutting; pollinium 0.25-0.45 mm long, asymmetrically pyriform. Fruit unknown.
