Aspidoglossum lamellatum (Schltr.) Kupicha

Species

Angiosperms > Gentianales > Apocynaceae > Aspidoglossum

Characteristics

Plants 15-55 cm tall, stems unbranched. Leaves opposite, usually shorter than internodes; lamina 1.5-4.5 x 0.05-0.8 cm; upper surface pilose, brown glandular-hairy or glabrescent, lower surface glabrous except for the pilose midrib. Flowers either in fascicles of 3-6 per node or borne in a terminal many-flowered capitate umbel on a long leafless scape; pedicels 2-4 mm long. Calyx segments 1.5-3 x 0.75-1.5 mm, pilose with hyaline and brown glandular hairs. Corolla lobes 3-4 x 1-1.5 mm, erect and sometimes slightly replicate at anthesis, buff-coloured outside and greenish marked with purple inside; dorsal surface sparsely pilose with hyaline and/or brownish hairs, ventral surface glabrous or with a patch of pubescence at the base. Corona 2-2.5 mm high, of two types: in type 1 each lobe is a simple flat scale ± diamond-shaped in dorsal view with acute or emarginate, rarely trifid, apex, the ventral surface with two inconspicuous longitudinal flaps folded towards the centre; in type 2 each lobe is ovate-acuminate and bears an inflexed triangular ventral appendage; corona white. Corpusculum 0.33-0.38 mm long; translator arms not flattened; pollinia 0.35-0.48 mm long, without apparent germination zone. Fruit 4.5-7 cm long, puberulent, without bristles.
