Characteristics

Plants 56-140 cm tall, usually sparsely branched. Leaves opposite, longer or shorter than internodes; lamina 4-10 x 0.1-0.2 cm; surfaces glabrous. Flowers 1-7 per node; pedicels 1-5 mm long. Calyx segments 1.5-2.5 x 0.75-1 mm, pilose with long hyaline hairs. Corolla lobes 3-4 x 1.5-2 mm, replicate with apex curved inwards, brown-tinged red and/or green; dorsal surface pilose with long hyaline hairs; ventral surface glabrous in the centre, pilose all round the edge with distinctly longer hairs at the tip. Corona 1.5-3 mm high, of type B; basal lobe 1-1.5 mm high, with sloping shoulders; ventral appendage variable in form, usually indexed and folded laterally with lobed marginal wings; corona yellowish. Corpusculum 0.2-0.25 mm long; pollinium 0.5-0.63 mm long, with faint, ill-defined germination zone. Fruits frequently formed, 4-4.5 cm long, narrowly fusiform and prolonged at apex into a long straight beak, densely and softly pubescent. Seed 3 mm long, compressed ovoid, concavo-convex, dark brown, rugose; coma 20 mm long.

Fruit 40-45 mm long, narrowly fusiform, apically elongated into a long beak, pubescent, without bristles.
