Characteristics

Terrestrial or lithophytic fern with semi-erect or pendent fronds. Rhizome short-creeping, scaly, the scales narrowly lanceolate, to 4 mm long, to 1 mm wide, with dark red-brown cell walls. Stipe and rachis dark brown on underside, becoming green above, densely scaly; scales like rhizome, mixed with deltate scales that taper abruptly to a long-attenuate apex and hair-like scales; stipe 1–4 cm long, 0.5–1 mm diam.; rachis not extending beyond uppermost pinnae. Lamina narrow-oblong, pinnate, 8–31 cm long, 1.5–4.5 cm wide, dark green; underside abundantly scaly with hair-like scales. Pinnae in 5–20 pairs, from broadly ovate, oblong or elliptic at frond base to oblong or obovate at apex; bases cuneate, shortly stalked or adnate by at least 4 mm near lamina apex; margins serrulate; apices obtuse; longest pinnae near middle, 7–24 mm long, 5–12 mm wide, gradually reducing in size upwards; lamina often terminating in a linear or ovate simple apical segment which is usually proliferous at the tip. Sori to 6 mm long. Exospores 37.2–43 × c. 27.6 µm (mean).
