Stipe and rachis dark chocolate brown, becoming green near apices, brittle; stipe 5–25 cm long, 1–2 mm diam., scaly; rachis usually proliferous below terminal pinna, abundantly scaly; scales to c. 2 mm long, triangular at base, with long filiform apices, with dark brown cell walls. Lamina narrowly elliptic or narrowly ovate, pinnate, 18–45 cm long, 4–8 cm wide, dark green above, pale below; underside scaly; scales similar to rachis; veins conspicuous. Pinnae in 12–25 pairs, ovate or narrowly ovate, with an enlarged basal acroscopic lobe; bases unequally cuneate, shortly stalked; margins ± doubly serrate; apices obtuse to acuminate; longest pinnae at or below the middle, 2.5–4.5 cm long, 12–16 mm wide, gradually reducing upwards, usually ending in a large terminal segment.
