Lithophytic fern. Rhizome short-creeping, scaly; scales narrowly lanceolate, to c. 3 mm long, with dark brown cell walls. Stipe 1.5–20 cm long, c. 2 mm diam., black at base, becoming pale brown or reddish brown, with scattered scales at base and near lamina. Rachis often proliferous near middle or toward apex, with scales narrowly lanceolate or narrowly triangular tapering to filiform apex, to c. 2 mm long, with dark brown or reddish brown cell walls, also with occasional hair-like and y-shaped scales. Lamina linear, pinnate, 30–100 (–200) cm long, 9–10 cm wide, dark green above, pale green below, with hair-like or Y-shaped scales below. Primary pinnae in 30–60 pairs; basal pinnae ovate to lanceolate; middle pinnae oblong to lanceolate, with basal acroscopic and basiscopic lobes; bases unequally cuneate to scalloped, ± sessile; margins irregularly toothed; apices obtuse to acute; longest pinnae near middle, 30–55 mm long, 8–15 mm wide, decreasing gradually upwards to an apical pinnatifid segment or with numerous reduced pinnae towards apex and an apical rachis bud. Sori 2–10 mm long. Perispores dark with smooth prominent broad ridges and smooth lacunae.
